4. Model Councils for further research:
a. Toronto, Canada: This is quite possibly the best model for FPCs. The policy council has had a number of successes and is strengthened by the city's commitment to it, top-notch leadership, and clarity of vision. www.city.toronto.on.ca/health/tfpc_index.htm
b. Portland, Oregon: This council is a couple of years old and has already achieved impressive results. www.portlandonline.com/osd/index.cfm?c=42290
c. State of Iowa: Though instituted at the state level, this council provides a good model for the policy advisory role such a council can play. In addition, the council's work emphasizes the importance of marketing local food to support the local food system and the local economy. www.iowafoodpolicy.org/
